Getting to and from the conference venue

The 2024 Worker Co-op Conference will take place at the Chicago Teachers Union Foundation, located at 1901 W Carroll Ave, Chicago, IL 60612.

Please use the west entrance located along N Damen Ave.

Below you’ll find helpful info for getting to the venue from the Freehand Chicago and Hilton Garden Inn Chicago as well as Chicago airports.

Please arrive at your hotel first, if possible. Both conference hotels allow guests to leave luggage prior to check-in. Luggage storage at the conference venue is limited.

Note for those using a car service: Please have your driver drop you off at the west entrance located along N Damen Ave.

The Freehand Chicago

The Freehand Chicago is conveniently located in downtown Chicago, just a 15 mins drive from our venue location at the Chicago Teachers Union Foundation and a 35 mins ride on the train via pink and green line. The address for Freehand Chicago is 19 East Ohio St, Chicago, IL 60611.

Hilton Garden Inn Chicago

Located in Chicago's Downtown Loop, the Hilton Garden Inn Chicago is just a 15 mins drive from our venue location at the Chicago Teachers Union Foundation and a 30 mins ride on the train via pink and green line. The address for Hilton Garden Inn Chicago is 245 S Franklin Chicago, IL 60606.

Midway Airport to Chicago Teachers Union

From Midway Airport to Downtown Chicago on the Orange Line on the metro:

  • Head to the CTA Orange Line station at Midway Airport, through door 6, take the elevator to floor 3. Follow signs within the airport to reach the station.
  • Purchase a Ventra ticket.
  • Cost: A one-way fare from Midway to downtown Chicago (Loop) is $3.00 ($2.50 when using a Ventra card or the Ventra app.) If you purchase a single-ride ticket at the station kiosk, it may cost slightly more. Make sure to check the current fare rates at the station.
  • Buying Tickets:
    • Use the ticket vending machines (kiosks) at the Midway Orange Line station.
    • Select "Midway" as your origin and "Clark/Lake" as your destination.

Ride the Orange Line Train to 35th/Archer Station:

  • Board the Orange Line train towards the Loop.
  • The journey from Midway to 35th/Archer typically takes around 15-20 minutes.

Transfer to Bus Route #50:

  • At 35th/archer, transfer to the #50 Ashland /Clark bus.
  • Exit the station and follow signs for bus stops. The #50 Ashland /Clark bus stop should be nearby, follow signs for bus transfers.

Bus Ride to Chicago Teachers Union:

  • Take the #50 Ashland /Clark bus - 27 min (30 stops)
  • Get off at Damen & Carroll 
  • Head north on N Damen Ave toward W Carroll Ave
  • Turn right onto W Carroll Ave
  • Turn right 
  • The Chicago Teachers Union building will be on your right at 1901 W Carroll Ave.
O’Hare Airport to Chicago Teachers Union

From O'Hare Airport, take the Blue Line to Chicago Loop

  • Head towards the CTA Blue Line station at O'Hare Airport. Follow signs within the airport.
  • Purchase a Ventra ticket 
  • Cost: A one-way fare from O'Hare to downtown Chicago (Loop) is $5.00 when using a Ventra card or the Ventra app. If you purchase a single-ride ticket at the station kiosk, it may cost slightly more. Make sure to check the current fare rates at the station.
  • Buying Tickets:
    • Use the ticket vending machines (kiosks) at the O'Hare Blue Line station.
    • Select "O'Hare" as your origin and "Darmen & Carroll" as your destination.

Ride the Blue Line Train to Damen Station

  • Board the Blue Line train towards Forest Park.
  • The journey from O'Hare to Damen typically takes around 30-40 minutes.

Transfer to Bus Route #50

  • At  Damen station, transfer to the #50 35th/Archer Orange Line by walking to the bus station ( Damen & Milkwaukee/North Ave (Blue Line).
  • You may need to exit the station and walk to the street level to catch the bus. Follow signs for bus transfers.

Bus Ride to Chicago Teachers Union

  • Take the #50 35th/Archer Orange Line
  • After 12 stops, get off at stop “Darmen & Caroll”.
  • The Chicago Teachers Union building is a short walk from the bus stop.

From Darmen & Caroll Stop to Chicago Teachers Union

  • 1 min walk towards 1901 W Carroll Ave, Chicago, IL 60612
    • Head south on N Damen Ave toward W Carroll Ave
    • Turn left onto W Carroll Ave
    • Turn right
